How to use Benz Tornado Cleanze to remove lichen stains from wall render (video)

Lichen stains on render can leave stubborn dark marks, even after the main organic growth has been treated. In this Trade Tip video, Ben shows how to use Benz Tornado Cleanze to remove heavy lichen staining from through-colour render quickly and cleanly.

Watch the video below to see how Tornado Cleanze removes heavy lichen staining from render.

Why lichen stains can be difficult to remove

Lichen attaches tightly to render and often leaves dark staining behind, even when the growth itself has been killed. Through-colour render, such as K Rend, Weber and monocouche, needs careful treatment because harsh pressure washing can scar the surface and leave permanent wand marks.

Tornado Cleanze gives contractors a controlled way to target stubborn staining without blasting the render. Its thick gel formula clings to the surface, stays where you apply it, and gives the active ingredients time to work directly on the stained area.

When to use Tornado Cleanze on render

Use Tornado Cleanze as a spot treatment for stubborn staining that remains after the main softwash treatment. It works especially well on:

  • Heavy lichen marks
  • Black staining on render
  • Stubborn organic staining
  • Localised marks that need extra attention
  • Areas where a liquid treatment runs off too quickly

Do not use Tornado Cleanze as a whole-wall render wash. Treat the main surface first with the correct softwash biocide, then use Tornado Cleanze only where stubborn marks need extra help.

How to apply Tornado Cleanze

  1. Test a small area first to check the surface reaction and final appearance.
  2. Apply Tornado Cleanze directly to the stained area.
  3. Allow the gel to dwell on the surface while it breaks down the staining.
  4. Keep the product under control and do not allow it to dry out.
  5. Lightly agitate if needed.
  6. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  7. Repeat the process if heavy staining remains.

Always work carefully on render. Start gently, assess the result, and increase dwell time or repeat the treatment only where needed.
