The easy way to remove limescale from window glass

Dripping overflow pipes and spray from garden hosepipes can leave a layer of limescale on window glass that can be hard to remove.

Scraping with a razor can work but it's hard, time-consuming and can scratch window glass. Chemicals such as hydrochloric acid (aka "brick acid"), sulphuric acid may work but they are far too dangerous for our liking.

Benz Oxy Cleanze dissolves & removes limescale from window glass quickly and safely – without scraping.

Watch the short (2:57) video below in which Ben demonstrates the easy way to remove limescale from glass:

Hi Mike

Firstly, Benz Oxy Cleanze is designed to remove oxidation and limescale. It is designed to be applied by brush and we have no experience of watering it down and applying via pump and pole. So we could not officially recommend diluting and applying the way you suggest.

Oxy Cleanze is for topical application. A small amount goes a very long way. The amount you would get to the surface via pump and pole could make it a big job. Our biggest concern would be to ensure the discolouration is oxidation, and to treat a test patch first before going further.

If the staining is due to long-term algae or lichen growth, then I suggest a strong treatment of Benz Biocidal Wash applied at 20-25:1. Leave for 6 months and see what happens. I’ve found it remarkable how this product continues to deep clean for several months – seeing is believing!

However, you call the problem “pattern staining” which is often due to mortar lines showing through a rendered surface due to the accumulation of fine particles of dust on cooler parts of the surface. Without having photographs and a more complete description I cannot comment further (feel free to send via email)

Btw: It would also be a good idea to check out basics such as the prevalence of damp, insulation breaking down, cavity walls being filled with debris, and condensation issues.

I hope this helps clarify,

Leo

Hi Ben / Leo…having watched the Oxy Cleanz vid…being a gel, I assume that it can’t be diluted such that it could be applied to a parapet via a pump and pole system? I want to try it on the pattern staining we corresponded about earlier in the week, on a high level panel of render. I could try it on a low level panel, as an alternative but would prefer to try it on the actual stained area. Regards Mike / TEC
