What's the Best Way to Remove Lichen by Soft Washing?

Several customers asked for our suggestions about the best way to remove lichen.

Lichen are the round white, brown, yellow and black growths that power washing alone will not remove. They grow on slate and concrete tiled roofs, as well as on concrete paths and monoblock drives.

And they can be very tough to remove.

Watch the video below to learn the most effective way to remove lichen (scroll down to read our written response):

Soft washing lichen – the basics

Lichen grow into, and attach themselves to, the surfaces of roofs, paths and walls.

The best way to remove lichen is to first kill it by treating with Benz Lightning Cleanze and then, if necessary, Benz Tornado Cleanze.

Brush the softwash chemicals in with a medium stiff brush. Then treat with Benz Bio Cleanze which continues working through time to kill any remaining lichen spores and provide residual protection against re-colonisation of lichen.

Quick tip: Depending on the strength and resilience of the surface being treated, a light power wash following a soft wash treatment can be helpful to quickly remove the dead lichen.
