A customer asked us, "How long after applying Benz Bio Cleanze can a surface be painted?"

Quick tip: If your customer and nature of the job makes it possible, we suggest using Benz Lightning Cleanze to clean a painted surface as the job can be completed quickly on the same day.

Softwashing painted surfaces with Bio Cleanze

Sometimes a customer's preferences, or site regulations, or ecological considerations, may indicate the use of Benz Bio Cleanze to softwash painted surfaces.

This can be particularly appropriate if the property is near a pond or watercourse, which rinse water from Lightning Cleanze should not enter.

If the property is to be re-painted, apply Bio Cleanze and rinse off after a week or two, when the biofilm (organic growths like green algae) has gone.

This ensures that any chemical residues are removed and also spiders nests, birds droppings, dust, and so on, which is essential for good pre-painting preparation.

If a softwash contractor treats the surface for a commercial painter, the painter could rinse the surface themselves, saving the softwash contractor a second journey.

Quick tip: If the paintwork is not going to be re-painted, but only needs cleaning, there is no need to rinse Bio Cleanze. Simply allow rain to wash it away over time.

Softwashing sand and cement render

Sand and cement render is a different proposition, especially if it's been left for a long time when it should have been painted. In this case we suggest applying Bio Cleanze and leaving it for as long as possible, at least a month and preferably two.

This allows time for natural cleansing to take place and for the deeply rooted growths to release their grip on the surface.

A final treatment with Lightning Cleanze and thorough rinsing completes the job. The surface can be painted when it's fully dried out.

We hope this information is helpful.

Cheers,

Ben, Leo & Fiona

Are pencil jets or fan jets best for soft washing brushes?

July 21, 2021

We use pencil jets in our brushes because we've found they don't clog or break as much as fan jets.

In the case of the Gardiner 45cm brush we use four of them. We turn the pump down so the flow rate is acceptable and does not produce much run-off.

Flow control at the pole is still critical however. Click the link on this page to learn about the solution we've found to be so successful ...
