We've received a lot of questions recently about Tornado Cleanze. One of the most common assumptions is that it's simply a thicker version of Lightning Cleanze.
It isn't.
Tornado Cleanze is a specialist cleaning gel designed to tackle stubborn organic staining, black lichen, black streaking and other marks that can remain long after the organisms responsible have been killed.
While Lightning Cleanze and Bio Cleanze are the products most contractors will use every day, Tornado Cleanze fills a different role. It's designed for situations where additional contact time is needed to remove staining that ordinary liquid treatments struggle with.
Where does Tornado Cleanze fit into a softwash process?
For most render, stone, concrete and roof cleaning jobs, Lightning Cleanze and Bio Cleanze will do the heavy lifting.
Lightning Cleanze provides near-instant cleaning and kills the growth responsible for the staining. Bio Cleanze then continues working over time, helping keep the surface cleaner for longer.
However, every contractor eventually encounters staining that refuses to move completely.
This is particularly common on black lichen, heavily stained concrete window sills, wall capping stones, paths, patios and surfaces that have been colonised for many years.
In these situations, the growth may be dead but visible staining can remain.
That's where Tornado Cleanze comes into its own.
Why not simply use stronger Lightning Cleanze?
A common mistake is to assume that increasing chemical strength will always improve results.
In reality, stubborn staining often requires more contact time rather than more concentration.
Tornado Cleanze has been formulated to stay exactly where it is applied. Instead of running down the wall or disappearing into surrounding areas, it remains in contact with the stain for significantly longer.
This extended dwell time allows the product to continue working on difficult staining while reducing run-off and helping minimise spray drift.
That makes it particularly useful in sensitive areas where overspray, run-off or neighbouring plants could be a concern.
Applying Tornado Cleanze
Tornado Cleanze can be applied using a brush, roller or pole system depending on the surface being treated.
Many contractors use the same approach as painters when working at height, applying the product using rollers or brushes attached to extension poles.
It can also be applied through water-fed pole systems by diluting 1 litre of Tornado Cleanze with approximately 300–500ml of water to improve flow characteristics.
In most situations, Tornado Cleanze works best as a targeted treatment applied directly to the affected areas rather than across an entire building.
Can Tornado Cleanze be used with Lightning Cleanze and Bio Cleanze?
Absolutely.
In many cases, contractors will first treat the surface with Lightning Cleanze to kill the organisms responsible for the staining.
If stubborn staining remains, Tornado Cleanze can then be applied as a targeted treatment.
Once the Tornado Cleanze has been thoroughly rinsed away, the surface can be treated with Bio Cleanze to provide ongoing protection against recolonisation.
Used together, the three products provide an effective solution for some of the most heavily stained surfaces encountered in professional soft washing.
